During an outreach program, a child asked how many bones were in a bat.  Several people have been searching for answers without much luck.  I know that the number of bones will vary in different species especially with varying tail sizes.  Does anyone have an approximate range of the number of bones in a bat?

Thanks!

Hi Amanda,

bats have between 205 and 218 bones depending on the species - as you say, the tail makes a difference!
