Found this unidentified bone while wading on the shore of Dauphin Island, Alabama, USA this past week. Any idea what this could be?

I wonder if it could be a proximal phalaynx of the first toe. Not sure which species - look a little big for a human though the right shape.

It's clearly worn from being in the water, but I agree with David that it's probably a finger / toe bone of something large and mammalian (like a deer, cow, pig etc.).
