hello! I found this strange spiked bone on the beach near the Chesapeake Bay. It is connected to two other bones forming a joint. I've never seen anything like it. Do you have any ideas what it could be?

Are you sure it is bone? If so others will have a better idea than me as skeletal anatomy is not my forte!

However, from the photo this looks to me rather like a slightly worn "tail spike" from a horseshoe crab - which are very common in that area. If so these are very interesting beasties that look like nothing else you'll ever find, and are not really crabs either. More info at the links below
