Can extreme cold such as minus temperatures affect a titanium knee replacement. Is there anything that can cause discomfort to a replacement joint.
The Professor of Orthopaedics at Bristol University kindly provided the answer:
Cold temperatures should not affect the knee prostheses as the body will regulate your internal temperature very effectively despite the outside environment being very cold.
Recent research has shown that between 10 and 20% of knee replacements have persistent moderate to severe pain in the long-term despite no identifiable mechanical cause.
