I'm searching for articles that indicate that the removal of the pectoral spine on channel catfish does not affect survival and growth.  Or, adipose fin removal effects, not affecting survival and growth.

Scientific (referred) journal articles are preferred.

Based on a quick search (i.e. may have missed something) I can't find any primary literature on this. Lots of salmonid literature relating to adipose fin clipping as you'd expect - with varying conclusions about its impact. I suspect the studies have not been done.

If this is a practically motivated question (i.e. you are looking for a cheap(ish) batch marking strategy) then it might be worth considering visible tags of some kind (e.g. elastomer) as well as clipping.
