Hello biologists,

Usually the megalodon shark and its relatives are reconstructed as big-bodied, giants versions of modern lamnids sharks.

But is it possible that megalodon could have been anguilliform in its body plan, like mosasaurids for example ?

PS : I'm not sure to post this here or in the fossils related section.

This is an interesting idea. I am not a Fish Guy, but I do know that it's recently been found that the Great White did not evolve from a megalodon-like animal but from something more similar to the modern mako shark. See http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-20318175

That does leave open the question of what, if not Great Whites, megalodon was related to. I don't know the current thinking on this. Does anyone?
