I already saw that post but it doesn't say what happens to the dead bacteria. Does it stay there, vanish in to thin air, or get eaten by a new type of bacteria? If it vanishes into thin air is there a name for this mechanism?

When all livings cells (which includes bacteria) die, the fluids and proteins in the cell dry up and then get slowly degraded (in part by other bacteria) over weeks and months.
