It could be some kind of egg mass but to me it looks like a ctenophore. These are variously called sea gooseberries, comb jellies, and lots of other things besides. Although they look like a ball of jelly - which they are - they are also pretty amazing little animals. Lots of general info about the group at the wiki site though


Ctenophora is actually a phylum so contains a lot of diversity and I wouldn't hazard a guess on identifying the species here.
