I saw a question from Susan about these bugs on her garden furniture which you suggested might be thrips. I don't think they are thrips though. Our furniture is smothered with them and they especially like a yellow shirt of my husbands! They are quite pointed at the head end (a bit like a teardrop in shape) and dark brown or light brown or a mixture. As Susan said they look as though they could fly but I haven't seen them and they don't bite. They are very small in general but vary in size. It would be great to know what they are. We have loads of silver birch trees in the area.

No, they are definitely not thrips but I can't make out what they are! Best guess is that they are the nymphs of a Hemipteran bug but I can't be sure from the photos that you've uploaded; sorry!
