When it comes to whale sharks and basking sharks, creatures with less-than-ideal eyesight, identifying possibly hazardous meals isn't always possible, especially with the transparency of a jellyfish. I wondered, when these large filter feeders are suspension feeding or suction feeding, how do they avoid engulfing creatures with stinging cells or venom? If they don't avoid them, how to they avoid suffering dehabilitating/fatal effects from the jellyfish?
