I'm working on a simplified illustrated geological timeline and now I'm stuck on the present - ie the holocene epoch. Are there any really unique species I could illustrate this period with other than Homo sapiens? (I have nothing against humans - it's just such a cliché... not to mention it smacks of the old "human as pinnacle of evolution" idea.)
Basically, what I'm asking is: Are there any immediately recognizable genera younger than modern humans? I could go with a domesticated species, but that seems like a bit of a cop out...

sorry but no-one seems to know the answer to your question.
