This cocoon type insect has been moving around our ornamental pine tree from branch to branch for the past month or more. One small black dropping may have come from this creature.
It's hard to say without a close look inside the cocoon but it is likely to be the cocoon of a moth in the family Psychidae (sometimes called bagworms).
