Hi

My son is doing a school project. Is it possible to take a tuft of grass and encase it in plastic resin ??? If so , how is it done , will it loose its "green" colour and how long will it last for?? (days , years etc) Will it breakdown and turn into "mush" at some stage ? HELP PLASE !!!!

Thanks from a challenged parent !!

Hi Brett, I don't know quite how you would go about actually creating and pouring the resin to encase some grass, but it is certainly possible. Quite a few shops sell bits of resin with flowers or insects trapped inside to preserve them so I would ask in hobby shops or contact some of the people working there about the actual procedure. As for preservation, the resin will prevent any biological decay (it won't turn to mush) as the process will kill any bacteria inside which might rot the grass. However the green colour will be vulnerable to sunlight and will probably fade to yellow and even white eventually. Aside from that though the grass a a biological structure should survive for years if not decades.
