Trees are central to life on earth, forming the most diverse ecosystems on land, providing essential ecological services and creating products on which we all depend. As a lecturer at the University of Nottingham, my research focuses on the structural organisation of forests, particularly how trees interact with each other and with other species. This takes me all over the world, from the remote boreal forests of Kamchatka (pictured) to the tropical rain forests of Borneo. For some short films about trees see http://www.test-tube.org.uk/trees/.
